Photo Walk: Exchange District
Join an on location photo walk for both digital and film shooters, with mini prompts and assignments to help you practice seeing, composing, and working with available light. This is a relaxed, supportive way to shoot alongside others. Bring your camera.
Floral Printing Workshop
This workshop will lead participants through the process of making lumen prints and phytograms. We will be composing flowers onto the surface of silver gelatin photographic paper to create haunting impressions of plant matter. All materials will be included, but participants are welcome to bring their own herbs, flowers, or leaves.
Floral Film
Learn to use flowers in the darkroom! We’ll cover film processing and printing across two sessions, focusing on workflow, technique, and reducing waste where possible. You will develop your film and create prints from your negatives. Bring already-shot film.
Direct Animation Workshop
Explore hands-on animation by working directly on film using dye, etching, drawing, gluing, hole punching, and other tactile techniques. This class is experimental and beginner-friendly, with lots of room to play and test ideas. An optional add-on session may cover scanning and creating loops in Photoshop.
Scanning Workshop
Learn how to scan developed film and turn your negatives into clean, high-quality digital files. We will cover basic settings, resolution, file types, and simple adjustments for better results. Bring developed film, and bring a laptop or a USB drive to save your files. We are able to scan small film to medium format.
Cyanotype Workshop
In this outdoor Cyanotype Workshop participants will be led through the alternative photographic process of using nature to compose images. We will collect materials from the garden, composing the plants onto the coated paper or fabric to expose in the sun. Then we will use tea, coffee, and herbs to tone the blue prints into alternative hues.
Non-Toxic Film Basics 101
Led by MADELYN GOWLER and DELF GRAVERT
In this ecological film processing workshop, participants will use appleol developer to develop black and white film. This process uses caffenol as a guide, creating a solution of washing soda and vitamin C. The use of natural materials in this darkroom process minimizes health risks and environmental impact.
The first day of this workshop will focus on the creation of appleol eco-developer and the hands-on processing of film negatives. Day two participants will make a contact sheet and 8x10 prints. The workshop will cover the characteristics of effective plants for film development, ethical harvesting standards, and tips for experimenting with eco-developers.
Participants are asked to bring their own roll of B&W film and will leave with a fully developed negatives, a contact sheet and an 8x10 print.
